The Foundation Window

At the heart of our school is All Hallows Chapel, built in the 1920s with bricks handmade by Southwell students. The significance of the chapel is established through school life with students beginning their Southwell journey in All Hallows Chapel, continuing with multiple chapel services each week culminating with the Year 8 Leavers ceremony on a student's very last day with us.

In 2020 a new chapel window was commissioned by the Foundation, based on a concept devised in house.  Suzanne Hanly of Glassworks Auckland created this magnificent addition to the spiritual heart of our school and we are grateful for her care, attention to detail and superb workmanship in bringing this project to life.

This spectacular and historic addition to All Hallows Chapel was unveiled on 22 June 2022 by The Ormsby Family.

The Craigs Investment Partners Staff Personal Development Grant.

The Punahou-Southwell Staff exchange is a result of the relationship fostered between our Headmaster Jason Speedy and Chai Reddy, Director of WO International at Punahou School. Both agreed it would be beneficial to both schools and would serve as a conduit to enrich a global community of educators.

Set at the edge of Manoa Valley in Honolulu, the Punahou campus covers 74 acres of lush tropical gardens and has inspirational learning spaces from robotics labs to outstanding athletics and arts facilities. Founded in 1841, originally as a school for missionaries serving in the Pacific region, Punahou now has a roll of over 3,700 students from Kindergarten through to High School, and has some 600 staff.

Like Southwell, Punahou values important traditions and so honours the distinctive culture the gifted land and protestant missionary values demand. The resulting educational vision is created by this unique cultural fusion of Hawaiian and Western heritage.

The Indoor Rec Centre

This fabulous facility was the result of a clever conversion and refurbishment of the old Workshop. Intended for use as an indoor sports facility, the space includes a climbing wall, cricket nets, turf for cross-fit and storage space.

Lately this space has also hosted Choir rehearsals and house meetings!

The Foundation was delighted to assist with the redevelopment of this multi-purpose space.
